SXSW 2914 : BORN TO FLY world premier post screening Q&A with director Catherine Gund and subject Elizabeth STREB

SXSW Left Tilda Swinton's public conversation (oh no you think...but I have had the same conversation with her privately) to go see the world premier of Catherine Gund's BORN TO FLYthe Elizabeth STREB documentary Both women, director Gund and choreographer-provocateur Streb  have each had  the courage to take flight. Gund best know for her kid-centric  healthy food and how to cook it documentary A PLATE AT THE  TABLE takes a wild leap forward and documents the body challenging feats of dance that signify STREB company physical discipline, BORN TO FLY is a  masterful example of complicated story telling, All I can say is WOW.. and how did they do THAT? This live action rel time footage has none of the new tricks of simulation Hollywood Action Hero flicks have . What you see is actually happening.

Gund shot some amazing STRB dances including the endorphin shower of doing and watching STEB walk down the sleek, slippery totally glass top to bottom of the London City Hall during the London Olympics in 2012 ... BORN TO FLY is lyrical with out being sentimental.The arch of film is letting go of fear ...... to fly. Obama let Wall Street Bankers buy their way out of Jail Time ..one more time

Despite the clear record of Wall Street Executives choosing greed and short term profits over law regulated policy which resulted in the world -wide recession from which recovery here at home and most clearly in places like Greece and Spain where recovery  is still a question for millions of people, what has the Obama administration done to punish those responsible? Not one corporate or Wall Street Executive has gone to jail .

 Only Martha Stewart, hardly a Wall Street CEO, spent time behind bars, his Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner with the support of NY Senator Chuck Schumer  has consistently protect his Wall Street buddies and let them get off scott free after buying their way out of jail. Yes it sometimes looks like a lot of money paid ... dirty corporate money ... buys freedom of incarceration.

Ultimately the public will pay through increase service charge etc, Here again banking officials clearly guilty, publicly admitting their error are allow to stay out of jail.

Someone  (we) needs to tell Obama to tell Geithner to stop playing monopoly; That there should not be a "Get Out of Jail " free card for sale to the highest bidder . Better yet Geithner should prosecute the criminals on Wall Street who break the law. We have a serious disrespect for the law in our country today. For example Tea Party defiance on paying taxes, public defiance of drug policy are undermining the very basis of civil society. (If the laws are wrong , change them,)  When some criminals usually white rich males are allowed to buy their way out of the legitimate punishment for their crimes it sets a terrible role model for anyone else to think crime does pay.   What Obama should be  supporting  is the "robin hood" transaction tax on each Wall Street transaction. This small individual transaction tax can be the source of funding for social services , the so called threatened with defunding "entitlements"  under attack as well as research into AIDS research and the cost of transitioning from fossil based energy to green alternative energy including solar and wind.  I am writing the President and my two Wall Street protecting Senators , Schumer and Gillibrand  and ask them to stop this outrageous protection of Wall Street criminals. Here is one more reason the election of Elizabeth Warren has the potential to stop this "get out jail" policy at the Treasury and Justice Departments has in place, I wrote Schumer and Gillibrand and Warren, will you? if please cc  reality check every.minute,matters@mail.com, Remember change starts at the local level not the top. Pegorama form IDA, her boss Michael IDA head and co-founder of and former ED of SF International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival Got all kinds of music tips from SXSW insiders and a big recomendation from Harry Gross. Me and Mr. Butter all tucked in on Sara couch for the duration. Picked up bike from Craig's list friend Pat Reilly. Weeding through what seems like 1000 emails about the film fest. In the background Actors Equity staff member in LA attempting to block me from participating in AEA Council election..She's in LA communicating with me in Austin through NYC staff member 3 time zone nightmare with a deadline looming. OY! Damn missing Matt at Banjo Jim's in NYC and Village Independent Democrats meeting (I'm on the Executive Board) membership meeting AND Harry Katoukas memorial at Judson Church...this one for friends ..informal ..bigger one in the works.. Harry was a true Village character..playwright of merit and agent provacature, He was at the frontlines in the founding of off-off Broadway at the Cafe Cino in the early '60's .. His tongue and wit had no rivals. Off to Convention Center .. sitting in press room writing this ... and surrounded by film makers pitching their flicks (I like that word in a festival context) ..tbc
