SPEAKING TRUTH: BUILDING COMMUNITY UNITED  :
PEAKING TRUTH: BUILDING COMMUNITY UNITED :

The militarizing of the transgender rights issue has made me think hard about what really matters here/ While my life has been dedicated to fighting for equality for all the same sex loving and erotically desiring individuals by making a safe space in the world and workplace for any person qualified to do the job they seek. Gender expression should not be the criteria for employment. Ability to do the job must be the bottom line. Period. Yes, there may be, in certain circumstances, additional criteria but I believe we have to essentially endorse a person's ability to perform a job be the essential criteria for employment in the work world.
I also endorse, and always have, that my body belongs to me as does yours to you. As a gay man, this is essential to me. What I do with my body is my business, not yours. Unless physical or mental harm is a result of my choices over my own body.
I have been a lifelong advocate of de-militarizing our culture be it soldering or policing. I know today that for many young people joining the military is a job choice driven by the economic reality we live in today. It is not a moral choice. So I am not very moved by the patriotism argument  I am hearing so much patriotism around the issue of transgender rights in the military.  It disturbs me, I want to stop the war machine not continue to populate it with young bodies as instruments of torture and death. I also believe in equality in the job front for all. While the claims of the cost being a motivation for the Trump degree on removing and rejecting transgender people in the military, it has been proven statistically that is simply is not true, more is spent in the military on erectile dysfunction medication than on trans health needs.

While, personally,  I do not advocate for myself extreme body interventions to take on the topography of the opposite of my birth sex. (yes BIRTH sex, not assigned sex)  nor do I personally use chemical intervention to blur identify. That is my personal choice. I have always felt myself to be different and it is now been given a name: gender queer. That's is my emotional, mental and spiritual definition of self. My only concern with people who contemplate extreme physical topography body manipulation is that they have done the research necessary to understand the full physical, emotional and long term health ramifications of their choice.

For some people I have know personally it is a question of life or death.

It is not my place nor my right to make these decisions for them.  I try to be supportive in my personal relationships and ask for me the appropriate, hard questions when the opportunity arises.   My principal concern and reaction to this sweeping statement with the intention of kicking out and making not the military available as a job choice for any person whose gender expression it's outside the "normal" gender behavior rules. I am not personally in favor propping up the binary definition of gender and see much of transgender gender behavior choices as reinforcing the binary roles defined historically by misogyny and sexism it remains my concern That' theoretical debate that we can have it another time.

What I am most concerned about today is the physical safety of people who do identify publicly as transgender in all their emotional expression and physical representation. Trump's decree troubles me deeply on this level. I think he has opened the bully door to physical attack and mental rejection of people who look and act differently in their gender expression than that which is considered "normal" in our society.
Safety. I think this is the most important issue today.   For someone my age, I know what it's like to live in fear of physical assault because of my gender expression and my sexual orientation. I also believe it is important to listen to the stories the transgendered identified people tell us about the lives,
Democracy Now  democracynow.org on  July 27th  devoted almost the entire hour to the transgender military issue. I found myself moved by the interview that I have posted here. I was moved by the sincerity of the person speaking. Now v  has to again make public the difference between v birth sex and v gender expression and identity. I remember a British film called" IT IS DIFFERENT FOR GIRLS",  The film taught me that most individuals who "transition"  simply want to live an integrated life in society without fear for their physical safety or economic survival. The shared desire to simply have a job they want to do well. So I suggest to my friends no matter where you stand on gender identity issues, we need today to unite in the rejection of this insensitive, cruel and dangerous position taken by Donald Trump.
Physical safety is my issue today for anyone whose gender expression regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation puts them at risk. Gender expression and sexual orientation are not invitations to bullies for violence. We live in dangerous times where civility towards each other that has been the hallmark of communication in a democratic society is under attack.

So please I hope all of you will join me standing with trans-identified individuals in creating a safe space for them to live in and be in society. Please watch this interview with Staff Sergeant Patricia King and I suggest you might want to watch the entire program democracy now on Thursday  to parse what the issues actually are because of this ugly,  hateful tweet of Donald Trump.  We need to stand together. I as a gay man know that isolation is the cornerstone of repression and creates the opportunity for physical attack.

My City Councilperson gets arrested in DC after joining people with pre-existing conditions fighting against TRUMPCARE

This is my City Councilperson, Corey Johnson.  He ran as an HIV+ candidate,  He won. Before being elected Johnson did depend on Medicaid/Medicare for his health care. Now as an elected official in NYC he has health care. Johnson knows well that many people like himself,  HIV+ l and others including those with a medical disability will under the proposed TRUMPCARE lose their health benefits if passed. So Johnson went to DC and joined 375 other citizens with pre-existing conditions and they together sat in at Senator's offices. Johnson was in the group blocking the entrance to Senator Mitch McConnell's office.

He repeatedly shouted "My name is Corey Johnson. I am gay. I am sober and clean, I am HIV+. I have a pre-existing health.condition. I have health insurance today, but I stand with all those who have a preexisting condition on Medicare and Medicaid.  He continued: "These people will lose their health insurance if this TRUMPCARE passes."Gorey Johnson was arrested, handcuffed and sent to a DC jail.

Watch the live stream and hear Corey Johnson explain why he was willing to be arrested in the fight to defeat TRUMPCARE

COREY JOHNSON ARREST and he tells us why in handcuffs

Quite frankly I am proud of him.  Yes, I do wonder why State Assemblymember Deborah Glick, the out lesbian and women's health advocate and State Senator Brad Hoylman have not been seen in DC putting their bodies and prestige with the demonstrators trying to stop the repeal of the Affordable Healthcare Act. Why they were not representing seniors like me who need health benefits.  Why are they not publicly supporting the call for Single Payer Health Care (Medicaid for All) as the best way to correct problems that do exist with the current Affordable Healthcare Act?

MEG HENTGES This Kind of Love from Brompton's Cocktail (Robbins Records (Atlantic) lesbian artist

Meg Hentges was in the legendary Portland  band  BOYS and then joined 2 NICE GIRLS replacing Laurie Freelove (who had left to record her solo album for Ensign  (English label best know for Sinead O'Connor)  and then Meg left 2 NICE GIRLS and recorded an album for  Robbins Records (Atlantic)  Brompton's Cocktail  which featured the single THIS KIND OF
LOVE

All Music Album Review
Meg Hentges doesn't waste much time here letting you know which side of the sexual divide she's filing dispatches from. The first verse on this album is the striking "in every school in the Midwest/all the queers are at the bottom/just above the poor and pregnant/just below the Future Farmers," and elsewhere, with occasional help from bassist, poet, and co-lyricist Jude O'Nym, she outlines struggles to reconcile lesbianism with religion and family. But while the lyrics are intelligent and sometimes powerful, it's the music Brompton's Cocktail that really demands attention. Expertly produced by Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne, the disc sets Hentges' guitar-based songs and no-nonsense, Lou Reedy vocals into backings that veer from crunchy, Cars-style new wave candy ("This Kind of Love," "Heaven Sent") to shiny folk-pop ("Silver Shine") to cool adult R&B ("Not a Minute Too Soon"), each coated with an irresistible pop sheen that could warm the hearts of all but the most tone-deaf Religious Righters. Even when Hentges simply muscles up and turns her former folkie stylings into sledgehammer riff-rockers, as she does on tracks like "Tattoo Urge" and "Dirt," the results are pretty impressive. The tongue-in-cheek birthday greeting to author Ayn Rand is a bit pretentious, but it's the only real misstep of a remarkable -- and remarkably catchy -- effort.

Gretchen Phillips (2 Nice Girls) her secret archive (no more) Lesbian singer's archive captures pre-internet gay life | Cornell Chronicle

What good news,,  Gretchen " I never threw away anything that I thought might be lesbian history") has placed her much rumored about archive in the Huan Sexuality category of Cornell University archives .. and now we can see what she saved ... a treasure trove of ephemera and digitalized aural and oral history. SO excited to learn of this today. Yes, i have some history with 2 nice girls (they were not always nice, and they were not 2)   .. but Gretchen, a member of the Texas Music Hall of Fame, immersed her life in preserving lesbian history as she participated in it over the last some 50 years. Thank you Gretchen, thank you, Cornell  ... Ok "ladies" ad some "gnts; time to dive in .....  one small question:  why would you feature a picture, not of the original band which includes songwriter extraordinaire Laurie Freelove but one with the talented Meg Hentges  ???  FYI . bith Freelove and Hentges had solo records which will wow your ears..

Met Jamis the first year we had both had moved to SF .. I was living at the Bachelors' Quarters at the corner of Broadway and Upper Grant and she was performing/working at a coffee shop two blocks up on Upper Grant,, we became fast friends. No one was famous yet! I  remember seeing THAT performance at Monterey and then I was hired by Clive Daivs and he signed Big Brother,  We became fast friends again. Don't seperate culture and politics. How we live ut lives EVERY moment is both cultural and political

Quite frankly I wish people and media and activist and self-appointed "queer"leaders would STOP separating politics from culture and realize that every time LGBT people gather be it a dance, a picnic, a demonstration a protest or a bonfire on the beach it is both a social and political moment. As an out gay man since 1966 and co-founder of both the YIPPIES and the GAY LIBERATION FRONT let ,me remind everyone who makes this separation to stop .. making change is hard work ..and it can also be fun.,, in fact it is critical on some level , That certainly was critical to the success of both the YIPPIE ! and the Gay Liberation Front movements. iIn GLF our organizing was done around two very brave actions We chanted COME OUT and we sponsored DANCES, not in bars that were closely policed by the mob and the cops: the bars .... that is why in the FREEDOM DAY/pride MARCH we had a samba band that all could dance to ...but its universal truth crosses over all identities and unites us in a shared desire to make a better more equitable world

for the last two years the Gay Liberation Front. invited the Manhattan Samba band to march with us . we knew her were LGBT members mixed in . GLF has always believed that putting theory into practice MUST involve the body ....I wish I had a better video clip of our dancing girls and the GLF marchers ..but this is all I could find today. tbc

WOW talk about taboo beauty Dorian Wood - CORPULENXIA

This is the most recent video from Dorian Wood.. talk about talent and courage and willingness to be naked on every level.. shocking, yes! necessary? yes! .liberating? if willing!.. Nothing in life or art is simple. Boldness is the only intervention worth artistically exploring when you live in the city of make believe fantasy nad manufactured beauty...that's LA folks. oh how proud Johana Went must be to see how her seeding of inspiration her work flowers

You asked how is Joni Mitchell at 73? Here she is attending Elton John's 70th birthday party in late March 2017 ..She appears to be in recovery from her brain aneurysm two years ago,  She dressed for the occasion and arrived in full makeup. She was able to rise and get into her cat herself when leaving Buster

May I introduce you to Dorian Wood & Ensemble Crush @ Moers Festival 2017 (Full Concert)

Let me introduce you to Dorian Wood.. I put v in the same concert room as ANONHI, DiamandaMark Eitzel and M Lamar ...  Thank you, Myke Dodge Weiskopf for the introduction. Indelible and a so welcome as a soul salve.

YOUNG, GAY AND ILLEGAL - Then & Now A convrsation across generations between 2 gay men

  • When I finish wiping the tears of identification with both men, I might comment. But I think the video say  it all ... if anyone knows of a similar conversation across generations between gay men  or lesbians of color . or a conversation between a young  lesbian (queer?) and old dyke    please share with me
