ALERT: DALLAS what can be done to stop the gun killing

Guns kill people.  Period. One man's response to the killing of black mostly men over the last four years by white police officers all over the United States was to pick up guns that he presumably legally owned  and open fire allegedly saying in hostage negotiations that “he wanted to kill white people especially white police officers” . While in hostage negotiation the shooter was killed by the Dallas police.

It is my opinion the public believes that white police officers .. or any police officer ,, works above the law and can kill members of the public without fear of punishment. I know there are  honorable police officers of different colors. They need to take leadership in citing  police in their own ranks. I am concerned by use of steroids in the police force and their effect on behavior? Yes  we need police protection as a citizens, but we also need protection from racist, anger driven police officers most amply on display in the killing of black men and women. Shoot to kill MUST not be a police policy.  

Yes, the militarization of the police forces across the country started by the Bush administration and continued by the Obama administration which offers free or cheap military equipment manufactured for war like operations to police departments across the country  and the training of police officers not as peace officers but solderers against crime has to end.

Most importantly every single member of Congress who has refused to pass meaningful gun control legislation are,  in my view,  complicit with this act of revenge for the killing of white police officers by putting guns in the hands of  people who should not have them regardless of color. Passing laws on a State level that allow open and concealed gun carrying In public including in schools, colleges  and churches only exacerbates the problem and threatens  the public.. Elected officials allegiance to the National Rifle Association (NRA)  over the safety of their constituents needs to be made very, very clear to the public. In this election year people need to know and understand the role of the NRA and it’s  financial relationship with elected officials.. Things can not change if we, as citizens, continue to have our federal and state gun policy dictated by the NRA.   I will not vote for any elected official who accepts $$$ from the NRA and votes to reject effective and reasonable gun control legislation.

In my view using a gun to settle disputes of any nature is wrong. Period!

This is why I joined and participate in GAYS AGAINST GUNS actions after the Orlando massacre of lesbian and gay men and their friends dancing at PULSE a gay dance club in Orlando. Here is and image of a restaging of the White Shroud ritual on Fire Island on July 4th to memorialize and personalize the people killed (i am the short third person in on the right hand side)

The Second Amendment must be interpreted in light of the 21st century reality .

I also must point out that when white police officers are killed by a civilian with a conscious alleged intent to “..kill white people, especially white police offices,”  the response from media is quite different in focus from their own focus from any one of the killing of black men by white police officers. “ The larger question of what conditions produce this kind of  act of violence must be primary in any discussion.

Hate causes anger, Anger in action can kill. Putting guns in the hands of angry people, including police officers, causes people to be killed. The policy of shoot to kill must revert back to shoot to disarm and immobilize the person threatened with a gun. Period.

Guns kill people . People who put guns into the hands of people who will kill are complicit in this crime,

It is simply nuts to enourage the average gay or lesbian person of any gender expression to carry their own gun unless orgnized as a Williams Boroughs fantasy group with out real weapons. PINK PISTOLS? 

Please listen closely to a libertarian public access television discussion with a dangerous (my opinion)  self appointed "gay /queer "  spokesperson for Pink Pistols in NYC.. This interview was conducted before Orlando and before he joined the new ACT UP as an HIV + activist .. note what he says about government involvement ..and now he s receives assistance with medication etc. 

I have had personal experience with ADEMAJ. We  have very different positions on PrEP (giving hiv- individuals serious AIDS drugs with serious side effects on a daily basis at  a cost of $18,000 (mostly paid by US government with taxpayer's money. As an HIV- person who has lived through the plague years/ I think it simply crazy to say that safe sex does not work. I know personally safe sex works   I met ADEMAJ at the new ACT UP meeting where a discussion of how ACT UP had failed and safe sex doesn't work was being held. (It does for me and many of my friends) . In talking with him , he told me he does not wear condoms because he thinks his HIV is undetectable, I asked if his health care provider supported  his refusal to wear condoms . He refused to answer.  He told me he feels no obligation to tell sexual partners that he is HIV+ , He told me he will have sex with any man or woman who is "hot." . At the time of this encounter he clearly looked to me as if he was on a multiple drug regimen which could be shedding in his semen  Later encounters were scary, He was so angry with me that he would scream in his now over steroid body, "I am going to destroy your reputation!"He told me would organized a group to ruin my reputation. I did not know at the time he was a gun advocate, He told me he would  destroy me. I do not want this person with the amount of rage he has directed at me. I did wonder to myself if he had Aids/HIV medication related dementia When he was screaming at me about destroying me I thought he might lose control . His apparent, to me,  issues with masculinity and wanting to act straight I have seen it other gay men i... but it was the first time i had encountered it  from a  person who vowed to destroy me who isa member of the PINK PISTOLS

THERE ARE FABULOUS REASONS TO CELEBRATE THE STONEWALL MONUMENT THAT OBAMA HAS JUST ANNOUNCED TO BE PLACED IN WHAT IS NOW CALLED SHERIDAN PARK , But beware of politicians and organizations like HRC trying to co-op the news. 

Please any post other than HRC ... use mine or any progressive groups .Please take any HRC posts down .. HRC is part of the problem. 

Please  do not highlight a place like the STONEWALL INN which is symbol of oppression ,it was mob run bar that in 1969 offered may have offered us safe space but at a great price in dignity . . 

OBAMA chose to locate the Monument in a PARK for very good reasons. The Gay Liberation movement started in THE STREETS, on Christopher Street NOT a bar.

That said I am so full of emotion I can hardly think ..tears of sadness for all those who fought who are not here , tears of joy for all the brave people in this picture by Peter Hujar ,,, the COME OUT GLF recruitment poster in 1969 and those who came before us . I am proud to have organized the shoot and to be in it .

GOOD NEWS : UPDATE STUDY on PrEP and Bone Density issue .New stop Truvada use in healthy bodies and i use condoms

GOOD NEWS A new scientific trial of truvada use in the PrEP protocol is now been published, The study, we read about it in BETA,   looks at the problem of bone density reduction in young people 25 and under who were in a control study. It reports that  when trucada use is discontinued,  the body, with no other serious health issues,  will revert over time to normal bone density As to how long to return to normal age makes the difference. This is good news. And I believe supports my call for a continuation of funding for SAFE SEX and CONDOM use, Please read and share. Another step in informing a person about all the issues they need to know in deciding yes or no to PrEP.

PrEP Does Not Appear to Cause Permanent Bone Loss

BETA is reporting from the 2016 Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) this week in Boston—bringing you the latest news, updates, and research on HIV treatment and prevention.

One of the drugs contained in PrEP drug Truvada, tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF), has been associated with small decreases in bone mineral density. Researchers have raised concerns that PrEP use may prevent peak bone mass formation and increase risk of fractures. At CROI today, results were presented of a study demonstrating that bone mineral density returns to normal levels after people stopped taking PrEP. The implications of this study may be important for providers who counsel clients about the benefits and risks of starting and stopping PrEP.

“Recovery of BMD [bone mineral density] after stopping PrEP has not been fully evaluated,” said Robert M. Grant, MD, the lead investigator of the study of the Gladstone Institutes, the University of California San Francisco and San Francisco AIDS Foundation. “Bone mineral density appears to be a dynamic and regulated process that does return to placebo levels after stopping PrEP.”

The bone mineral density study was conducted with a subset of participants who participated in the oral PrEP iPrEx randomized controlled trial and open-label extension. A total of 498 men and transgender women received bone mineral density scans (DXA scans) of the spine and hip at the iPrEx baseline visit, every 24 weeks during the study, and when they enrolled in the open-label extension portion of the iPrEx trial. The median age of participants was 25 years and 11% identified as transgender.

Among people assigned to take active drug during the randomized controlled portion of the study, the average hip and spine bone mineral density decreased from the time study drug was begun. (Analyses were focused on people in the study who achieved drug levels corresponding to taking at least 2 to 3 tablets of study drug per week.)

“You can see that changes in bone mineral density occurred in both the hip and the spine. They occurred by week 24 and there was no substantial decrement after week 24,” said Grant.

After drug was stopped, and before participants enrolled into the open-label extension portion of the study, bone mineral density in both the hip and the spine increased. People under age 25 experienced a faster return to normal levels than people over age 25.

People under age 25 recovered bone mineral density of the hip and spine by six months after stopping drug. People older than 25 recovered bone mineral density completely in the spine within six months, and completely in the hip by the start of the open-label extension. (The median time between the randomized controlled study and the open-label extension was 1.5 years.)

It is not yet known how a second exposure to PrEP (as in, for example, the open-label extension portion of the iPrEx study) affects bone mineral density. Grant reported that participants in the iPrEx open-label extension did receive DXA scans every 24 weeks, and his team plans to present those results later this year.
